Athletes, musicians, designers – everybody needs support!

The past weeks in Millhaus were all about promotion of new blood – whether athlete, musician or designer. Here a short chronology of the happenings.

The finale of the T-Mobile Local Support season was the Local Support Street Challenge for BMX pros and amateurs. It took place in Emmering near Munich with more than 80 riders from Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and France. Team FlairBMX from Berlin won the first prize in the amateur class. They gained a video portrait on www.freedombmx.de – maybe the beginning of a career as a professional athlete?! In the pro class the first prize was, like always at the Local Support Challenges, financial support for the home spot in the amount of 4.000 €. The Czech team Agang and the whole BMX scene in Prague can look forward to the construction of a foampit.
The band Trainstation from Gescher convinced the expert jury around Dennis Lisk and Claire Oelkers with their song “Bewegt Euch!”. The 4 guys prevailed over 325 bands and won the music promotion in the amount of 5.000 €, new equipment and a live gig at the Rider’s Night at the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds Street Session in Berlin. Millhaus attended to the T-Mobile Local Support project Germany since 2006 which dedicates to the improvement of infrastructure of the action sports scene as well as the promotion of young athletes and musicians. Next to 5 Local Support Challenges and 2 Band Contests Millhaus also implemented diverse workshops in the fields action sports and music in 2009.
Prior to the Street Session of the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds the Action Sports Week took place in 4010 Shop, the T-Mobile shop in Berlin Mitte. On 2 days Millhaus was responsible for the program: On the one hand a video premiere was realized in co-operation with the snowboard production Isenseven, on the other hand Millhaus arranged a designer market where 5 young labels from Berlin had the opportunity to present and sell their fashion.

Millhaus supports the documentary photography festival FotoDoks.

Already the second time the documentary photography festival FotoDoks takes place in the framework the Nonfiktionale. Just as the film festival FotoDoks 2009 is under the topic “real-time” – this poses exiting questions which are put to the moving as well as the hold and stalled picture and thus motivate an exchange between two media in the scope of documentation.
In a public announcement photographers were invited to apply for FotoDoks 2009 with a result of almost 100 applications. The jury consisting of Thomas Hoepker (Magnum Photos), Sabine Schründer (last year’s FotoDoks winner and tutor at Lette Verein Berlin), Jörg Koopmann (Ostkreuz München) and the FotoDoks organizer Hans Herbig and Robert Pupeter were confronted with a hard decision: “We cannot count the many E-Mails and calls anymore that were placed between Munich, New York and Berlin”, says Hans Herbig, “but after a final Skype conference we agreed and the nine photographs were found and will present their work at FotoDoks 2009. We are curious about the audience sharing our enthusiasm.”
The vernissage of FotoDoks 2009 takes place on September 24th in presence of the artists and judges. Afterwards the Nonfiktionale opening movie will be shown in the cinema of Bad Aibling.

Millhaus realizes the T-Mobile Wakeboard PR action in the harbor of Hamburg.

Job definition:
T-Mobile Germany commissioned Millhaus to conceive and permute a PR action prior to the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds Summer Session in Hamburg on August 30th 2009. Target was to generate a maximum presence of the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds in the public and special interest media.

Implementation:
Catch for this PR action was the discipline Wakeboard which was one athletic component at the Summer Session. Since Hamburg is renowned for its harbor, it was obvious that this extraordinary area should be used in terms of an “Extreme Playground”. The idea was born: a record jump over a Hamburg-typical barge. The new designed Grasbrookhafen in HafenCity offered the optimal location. A Wakeboard Kicker with a weight of one ton was brought into the dock with special cranes and tugs and anchored with the barge. The two German top-riders Steffen Vollert and Tom Richter risked the jump over the 17m long, 4m wide and 3m high excursion boat. In face of really though conditions they both coped with this uncommon challenge.

Result:
In addition to many visitors in HafenCity who watched the Wakeboard Jump live the promotion was announced in numerous media. Channels with strong reaches such as ZDF, Sat1 17:30, RTL 2, N24, Hamburg 1, MTV, Mc Donalds TV, Spiegel Online, Morgenpost, Abendblatt reported on the record jump.
Millhaus produced an online video clip which was distributed to various international Wakeboard media.

Fiat Freestyle Team Get Together.

A real team event was the Fiat Freestyle Team Get Together in the lido in Utting/ Ammersee on August 4th. The Pro athletes, usually lone fighters in their individual disciplines, competed in this special triathlon in team’s á 3 persons together with journalists, friends and other sports minded people. The disciplines Wake-Surfing (on the standing stern wave of a motor boat), Stand-Up-Paddling and 10 meter High Diving were scheduled. In the end the Team around Big-Wave-Surfer Sebastian Steudtner who can obviously handle smaller waves too had its nose ahead.
